Turkey Deploys Special Forces to Prevent the Expulsion of Refugees from Greece
OREANDA-NEWS. Turkish authorities decided to deploy one thousand special police forces on the border with Greece to prevent attempts to return migrants. This was stated by Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu. “They wounded 164 people. They tried to push 4.900 people back to Turkey. We are deploying 1,000 special force police to the border system… to prevent the push-back,” the politician said.
Earlier, Ankara opened the border with the European Union against the background of the aggravation in the Syrian governorate of Idlib.
It was previously reported that Austria intended to send the border police to restrain the flow of migrants to Greece. “We must be clearly focused on stopping people on the external border,” Austrian Minister of the Interior Karl Nehammer said.
