OREANDA-NEWS. US President Donald Trump called on the US Federal Reserve System to continue to cut rates and stimulate the economy.

“Our pathetic, slow moving Federal Reserve, headed by Jay Powell, who raised rates too fast and lowered too late, should get our Fed Rate down to the levels of our competitor nations. They now have as much as a two point advantage, with even bigger currency help. Also, stimulate!” the politician wrote on his Twitter page. “The Federal Reserve must be a leader, not a very late follower, which it has been!” Trump added.

A meeting of the US Federal Reserve will be held on March 17–18. Last week, the agency had already reduced the interest rate by half a percentage point.

Before that, Trump has repeatedly criticized the US Federal Reserve for too slow rate cutting.
