The US Congress Voted for the Introduction of Sanctions Against the "Nord Stream-2"
OREANDA-NEWS The house of representatives of the US Congress adopted a resolution on countering the "Nord stream-2". The chamber reported on Twitter.
The document was adopted unanimously. It States that Nord stream 2 is "a step back for European energy security and US interests."
The resolution calls on the President to support Europe's energy security by diversifying and reducing dependence on supplies from Russia. The document also supports the introduction of sanctions against the project.
Us President Donald trump, lawmakers urged "to take all possible measures to support European energy security by diversifying energy carriers to reduce the EU's dependence on Russia."
The Nord stream-2 project involves the construction of two gas pipeline lines from the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany. The total capacity of the system is 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Ukraine, which is afraid to be left without income from the transit of Russian gas, some European countries, including Poland, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as the United States, which promote its LNG to the European Union, are actively opposed to the construction. These countries call the project political and threatening European energy security.
Russia has repeatedly stated that Nord stream 2 is an absolutely commercial and competitive project, and pointed out that it does not imply the cessation of gas transit through Ukraine to the EU.
