OREANDA-NEWS. The United States is shocked by Russia’s decision to stop participating in the United Nations humanitarian deconfliction mechanism in Syria. This was stated by the American Permanent Representative Kelly Craft at a meeting of the Security Council.

According to the diplomat, Russia destroyed the mechanism of deconfliction with the UN and put millions of lives in northwestern Syria at risk, creating an obstacle to the delivery of UN assistance to this zone. Craft also said that this step is dangerous and unacceptable, it was allegedly designed to interfere with the supply of humanitarian aid.

On June 25, Reuters agency reported of the withdrawal of the Russian Federation from the UN mechanism “aimed to protect hospitals and humanitarian aid deliveries in Syria from being hit by the warring parties.”

On June 26, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, called such a presentation of information incorrect. According to him, there are no official agreements with the UN regarding the protection of humanitarian facilities, including medical facilities, in Syria, and that Moscow is fulfilling its obligations.
