The United States Added Two Russians to the Blacklist for Cyber Crimes
OREANDA-NEWS. The US Treasury Department has added two more Russian citizens to the SDN List of cyber sanctions.
According to the press release of the agency, they are Dmitriy Karasavidi (born in 1985) from Moscow and Danil Potekhin (born in 1990 or 1995) from Voronezh. The US Treasury noted that these persons were involved in the theft of virtual currency. Their target in 2017–2018 was the clients of three virtual asset service providers: two of them located in the United States and one abroad. As a result of the criminal activities of these persons, the total damage amounted to at least 16.8 million dollars.
“The Treasury Department will continue to use our authorities to target cybercriminals and remains committed to the safe and secure use of emerging technologies in the financial sector,” US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated.
Last week, the United States added three Russian citizens and one Ukrainian to the sanctions list for interfering in the American elections.
