The State Duma of the Russian Federation Adopted a Law on the Immunity of ex-Presidents
OREANDA-NEWS. Deputies of the State Duma of Russia adopted in the third, final reading a law that ensures the immunity of the former President of the country.
According to the law, the ex-president cannot be brought to criminal or administrative responsibility, as well as detained, arrested, subjected to search, interrogation or body search.
It is noted that the ex-president of Russia can be deprived of immunity by the Federation Council only on the basis of an accusation made by the State Duma of high treason or committing another serious crime, confirmed by the conclusions of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation.
“The decision of the State Duma to bring charges and the decision of the Federation Council to deprive the immunity of the President of the Russian Federation, who has terminated the exercise of his powers, should be adopted by two-thirds of the total number of senators of the Russian Federation and deputies of the State Duma,” the document clarifies.
