OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian Embassy in the United States urged the Department of State to disclose which organizations receive funding from the USA. The message was published on Twitter of the Russian diplomatic mission in response to the fact that the US foreign policy department previously required research centers to notify the public about funding from abroad, when such takes place.

According to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the State Department will take such information into account when deciding whether and how to interact with these research centers. He noted that the current decisions are in addition to the disclosure requirements of the US Foreign Agent Registration Act. At the same time, Pompeo claimed that some foreign governments, such as the Chinese and Russian, seek to influence US foreign policy through lobbyists, experts and research organizations.

“We call on the State Department to pursue a true transparency policy – to reveal the recipients of US funding. Those who influence political processes in other countries,” the Russian Embassy wrote in response.
