OREANDA-NEWS. Prime Minister of in Bahrain, Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who served as head of government since 1970, has died at the age of 84. This was reported by the television channel Al Jazeera.

Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the uncle of the reigning monarch, died in an American clinic. King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa declared a week of mourning in the country.

According to the Bahrain News Agency, the burial ceremony will take place after the body of the deceased is returned to its homeland; the funeral is not planned to be mass, only a few relatives will be present. Government ministries will be closed for three days starting November 12.

Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa died at an important stage in the country’s history: in October Bahrain officially established diplomatic relations with Israel. On October 18, an agreement was signed in the capital of the kingdom, Manama. Both countries promised not to take hostile actions against each other. In addition to the Israeli delegation, representatives of the United States, in cooperation with which the document was signed, arrived in Manama.
