The Leader of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Is Preparing a Procession from Ukraine to Crimea
OREANDA-NEWS. Refat Chubarov, the leader of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People (organization banned in Russia), is going to hold a “peaceful rally” during which a procession from the territory of Ukraine to the Republic of Crimea would take place.
Chubarov stated this at a press conference in Kiev. According to him, it will be a “non-violent peaceful action” named “World Against Violence and Occupation. March of Dignity”, during which participants will cross the border of Ukraine and Crimea. “We are going home,” Chubarov said.
The politician noted that he would try to attract representatives of other countries to the rally. Chubarov did not give an exact date, but said that a headquarters of the action had already been created, its members would be announced in the nearest future.
It will not be the first attempt by the leaders of the Mejlis to enter the Crimean peninsula. In May 2014, Mustafa Dzhemilev, who had been denied entry into the Republic, tried to cross the border, accompanied by his supporters. However, Dzhemilev did not manage to get into the Crimea.
Eskender Bilyalov, the member of the Russian Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, considers the idea of Chubarov to be a provocation. “Such action, violation of the state’s border is a proper provocation,” Bilyalov said. “Chubarov had already organized similar processions in Ukraine. Then, people from all over Crimea walked to Simferopol, stood on the street for two hours, and after that his supporters had got two seats in the Crimean parliament. I think this time everything seems to be in a similar way: he needs make his presence known, because they become worthless and the world community begins to recognize Crimea as a part of Russia,” Bilyalov added. “This will not end in anything, no one will cross the border. I think that even the Ukrainian authorities are not interested in such an action. It is a farce,” he resumed.
