OREANDA-NEWS. The Kremlin did not expect to receive such high rates of voter turnout and approval of constitutional amendments. Sources close to the Russian presidential administration informed RBC about it.

"This is a triumph," RBC quotes its interlocutor. It's noted that the voting went practically without violations and scandals.

According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), 77.92% of voters were in favor of the amendments, while 21.27% were against. The Federation Council pointed out that the preliminary results demonstrate the failure of "the so-called non-systemic opposition," whose representatives called to ignore the voting.

TV presenter Vladimir Pozner notes that he's not surprised by such indicators of voting on the amendments. According to him, 78% of the whole country is absolutely true, reports National News Service. Posner believes that the majority of Russians were not talking about the Constitution, but about trust in Russian President Vladimir Putin.

As it was reported earlier, the results of the voting on the Constitution are allowing President Vladimir Putin to potentially extend his two-decade rule until 2036. Putin said the changes were needed to ensure Russia's future "stability, security, prosperity."
