The Kremlin Commented on the Contacts between Moscow and Minsk because of Detained Russians
OREANDA-NEWS. The presidents of Russia and Belarus, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, did not contact on the topic of the Russians detained by Minsk.
This was announced to reporters on July 31 by Dmitry Peskov, a press secretary of the Russian President. “The Foreign Ministry and our Embassy in Minsk are currently working, the necessary contacts are being made,” the politician explained.
According to Peskov, the Kremlin is concerned that consular access to the detainees has not yet been provided, and hopes that this will happen in the near future.
He also said that so far Moscow has not received any information that would justify the detention of their citizens. “We hope and are convinced that in the very near future the Belarusian colleagues will investigate the incident and release the Russian citizens,” Peskov stated. “Now we can say with a high degree of confidence that these Russian citizens arrived in Belarus in transit, they had to fly to another country… and their stay was not connected with Belarus and Belarusian affairs,” the press secretary added.
The Belarusian media reported on the arrest of 32 employees of the paramilitary Wagner Group on July 30.
