The Kremlin Commented on Lukashenko’s Harsh Words about Alliance with Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. Dmitry Peskov, the Spokesman for the Russian President Vladimir Putin, commented on recent words of Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko about the Union State of the two countries.
“Every year new conditions are palmed off to us. And as a result, we are losing something in the economy, we are losing and losing again. Excuse me, who the hell needs such an alliance?” said the President of Belarus the day before.
According to Peskov, the Kremlin drew attention to the emotionality of Lukashenko’s statements about practicability of the Union State. At the same time, Russian supreme authorities still believe that the mutual benefit of preserving the alliance with Belarus is unquestionable.
“We sequentially continue to believe that in this case the mutual benefit of this union, the Union State, is unshakable,” Peskov emphasized.
On November 19, the heads of the governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus Dmitry Medvedev and Sergey Rumas are to discuss a new program for implementing the Union Treaty at a meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State in Moscow.
According to Russian newspaper Kommersant, Moscow and Minsk agreed on more than half of the roadmaps provided for by the economic integration program. These roadmaps are dedicated to various spheres and industries. The presidents of the two countries can approve the entire package of roadmaps on December 8. After economic issues are resolved, the coordination of political integration of Russia and Belarus should begin.
