The Junta Electoral Central of Spain Stripped the Head of Catalonia of the Deputy Mandate
OREANDA-NEWS. El Mundo newspaper reported that the Junta Electoral Central of Spain decided to strip the head of Catalan government, Quim Torra, of the right to hold public office until the final decision of the country’s Supreme Court in this regard.
On December 19, the High Court of Justice of Catalonia decided to deprive Torra of the right to hold public office for 18 months, but the politician appealed the decision to the Supreme Court of Spain. It was assumed that until the final decision, Torra may continue to hold his post.
The conservative People’s Party and the centrist party Citizens turned to the Junta, ask the Court to deprive Torra of his seat in the Catalan parliament, which automatically means his removal from the post of head of government.
