The Hague Special Court for Kosovo Arrested the Leader of the Republic
OREANDA-NEWS. The leader of the partially recognized Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, was taken under arrest by the Special Court for Kosovo. This is reported in the press release of the court circulated on November 5. Earlier, it became known that Thaci had resigned because of the indictment act of the Special Court in The Hague against him for war crimes.
After the arrest of Thaci, former speaker of the parliament of Kosovo Kadri Veseli, deputy of the Kosovo parliament from the Self-determination Movement Party Recep Selimi, former chairman of the parliament Jakup Krasniqi, they were transferred to an investigative isolation ward.
The court noted that all of them are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity, committed in the period from March 1998 to September 1999 in the territory of Kosovo and northern Albania.
The Special Court for Kosovo was established to deal with serious crimes committed in Kosovo. The reason for its creation was the PACE report published in January 2011, which claimed that members of the Kosovo Liberation Army were involved in drug trafficking, kidnapping, murders and trade in human organs. To ensure the independence of the work of the court, it was decided to place it in The Hague.
