The Government of Belarus Resigned
OREANDA-NEWS. The government of Belarus, in accordance with the law, resigned because of the election of a new president of the country.
The decision was published on the National Legal Internet Portal on August 17. “According to the document, the prime minister, deputy prime ministers, ministers and chairmen of state committees are instructed to exercise their powers until the president forms a new council of ministers by issuing legal acts on the appointment to these positions by the president,” the resolution reads.
On August 9, presidential election in Belarus ended. According to the final data of the Central Election Commission, 80.1 % of citizens voted for the current head of state Alexander Lukashenko, 10.1 % for the opposition candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
Since August 10, numerous mass protest actions have been held in the country. Several thousand demonstrators were detained. Some Belarusian enterprises went on strike demanding to cancel the election results.
