The German Government Criticized the Ban on the Activities of Navalny's Headquarters
OREANDA-NEWS. The German government has condemned the ban on the activities in Russia of the headquarters of Alexei Navalny, who is serving a real term in a colony in the Vladimir region.
«The fight against politically objectionable opinions by anti-terrorist means is in no way consistent with the principles of the rule of law», German Cabinet spokesman Steffen Seibert said in Berlin on Monday, April 26. He reiterated his call for the release of the Russian opposition leader and for him to have access to adequate medical care and doctors he trusts.
Earlier in the day, the Moscow City Court suspended the activities of Navalny's headquarters pending a decision on the prosecutor's office's claim to recognize these organizations as extremist. The prosecutor's office also requested the suspension of the activities of Navalny's other structures – the Anti-Corruption Fund (FBK) and the Fund for the Protection of Citizen's Rights. However, decisions have yet to be made on these statements.
Lawyer Dmitry Agranovsky urged Russians to refrain from sponsoring the FBK and to take care of themselves. He noted, that the final decision of the court in the case of recognizing the organization as an extremist is not yet available, but in any case it can be risky, reports Russian media «Ridus».
According to him, there is a possibility, that the court will side with the opposition, but the possibility of this is negligible. If the FBK is recognized as an extremist organization, then those who sympathize with it and the opposition leader Alexei Navalny will automatically fall out of favor with the law.
