The Duma Introduced a Bill That Gives Vladimir Putin the Right to Run for President Again
OREANDA-NEWS. A bill was introduced to the State Duma in accordance with amendments to the constitution, which gives the right to the current President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to re-run for the post of head of state. The bill was proposed by State Duma deputies Pavel Krasheninnikov and Olga Savastyanova, as well as by Senator Andrei Klishas. The text of the proposed bill can be read in the electronic database of the lower house.
The text of the bill removes the limitation on the terms that the incumbent president can hold office. It says that "The provision of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, limiting the number of terms during which the same person can hold the office of President of the Russian Federation, applies to the person who held and (or) holds the office of President of the Russian Federation, without taking into account the number of terms during which it held and (or) holds this position at the time of the entry into force of the amendment to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, introducing a corresponding restriction, and does not exclude the possibility for him to hold the office of President of the Russian Federation for the period allowed by the said provision. "
In addition, according to the adopted amendments to the Constitution, the requirements for candidates for the highest leadership position in the country were adjusted and supplemented.
According to the new criteria, a citizen of the Russian Federation who is at least 35 years old, who has permanently resided in the Russian Federation for at least 25 years, who does not have and has not previously had citizenship of a foreign state or a residence permit, can be elected president of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the requirement for the absence of foreign citizenship will not apply to Russians "who previously had the citizenship of a state that was adopted or part of which was adopted in the Russian Federation in accordance with federal constitutional law."
