The Deal Between Biden and Merkel was Considered as Disservice to Ukraine

OREANDA-NEWS The US President Joe Biden and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel have signed an unconvincing deal about Nord Stream 2 and guarantees to Ukraine look very dubious, writes the Financial Times.
According to the author of the article, Nord Stream 2 has always been a geopolitical project, and its launch threatens Kiev with deprivation of a significant part of its income. At the same time, the agreement between Berlin and Washington about the gas pipeline is "wrong at all levels": the obligations to "counter" Russia are very vague, the Green Fund to promote the transition to green energy sources will not be able to cover the losses of Kiev, and Merkel's words about assistance in extending gas transit through Ukraine nothing more than a "promise to try", - the media notes.
The journalist considered the reason for such a deal to be Biden's desire to "leave the problem of Russia" since China is seen as the main threat. However, the agreement between Berlin and Washington does not at all serve to unite democracies but rather to split the European Union, since the countries of Eastern Europe, in particular Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, are concerned about the consequences of the launch of Nord Stream 2.
