OREANDA-NEWS. Opposition representatives on the Syrian Constitutional Committee hope to achieve a political settlement in the country in 2020. This was stated on Wednesday by the opposition co-chair of the Committee, Hadi al-Bahra, speaking at his first meeting.

"I hope that the 75th anniversary of the UN next year will also be an opportunity to celebrate another achievement of the World Organization - the success of efforts under the auspices of the special envoy for the political process, which will bring peace and justice to all Syrians", he said.

Al-Bahra noted that peace in Syria can only be achieved as a result of the political process, and not by military means. "The time has come to recognize that victory in Syria is to establish justice and peace, and not win on the battlefield", he stressed. The opposition co-chair also pointed out the need for parallel implementation of other confidence-building measures between the parties. “We must achieve the release of all prisoners by all parties, as well as establish the fate of the missing”, he said.
