State Duma Committee is Going to Discuss Prospects for Relations Between Russia and the United States After the Presidential Elections
OREANDA-NEWS. The head of the Russian Foreign Affairs Committee, Leonid Slutsky, said on November 4 that the State Duma's Foreign Affairs Committee plans to discuss the prospects for relations between the two countries at a roundtable in November.
The Russian parliamentarian expressed the opinion that anti-Russian sentiment still prevails in US domestic policy, and regardless of who becomes the boss of the White House for the next four years, he fears that anti-Russian propaganda may reappear and influence relations between the two countries.
Leonid Slutsky said that the State Duma's Foreign Affairs Committee plans to analyze in the context of the prospects for bilateral relations the situation after the elections of the 46th President of the United States and the American Congress at a special round table meeting at the end of November. Russia invites leading experts for dialogue. At the same time, he specified that the State Duma retains "hope for common sense and healthy pragmatism" in the dialogue between the two powers.
Slutsky noted that although the results of the presidential elections in the United States have not yet been officially announced, both candidates are confidently announcing their victory. Thus, the incumbent President Donald Trump has already announced his victory and called for an end to the counting of votes, and his rival, Democrat Joseph Biden, "also declared full confidence that he will become the next master of the White House."
Leonid Slutsky believes that the final summing up may be delayed due to early large-scale voting by mail.
