Scottish Authorities Intend to Hold a New Referendum on the Independence from the UK
OREANDA-NEWS. On November 27, British media reported that the First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon promised to hold a referendum on the independence of the territory from Great Britain and a new vote on withdrawal from the European Union (Brexit), which, in her opinion, would lead the country to decline.
“People are becoming increasingly sick of hearing Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn talking about not allowing Scottish people to choose their own future,” Sturgeon said before the snap election in Great Britain.
The First Minister noted that if Scotland remains a part of the UK, it will face budget cuts, the seizure of power of the Scottish Parliament, poverty of children, as well as a disastrous Brexit agreement that will lead to a job crisis, worsening living standards and infringement of the rights of workers.
Sturgeon condemned the main parties in Britain for keeping the country in chaos. According to her, with such a Prime Minister as Boris Johnson, the worst is ahead. She described Johnson as unsuitable for the post.
According to media reports, Sturgeon is seeking a referendum on Scottish independence in 2020. According to the results of the referendum on Scottish independence held in 2014, 55 % voted to remain in the UK.
In September 2019, it was reported that almost half of the British citizens recognized the right of Scotland and Northern Ireland to hold an independence referendum after the United Kingdom leave the European Union.
On December 12, parliamentary elections which Johnson initiated will be held in the UK. The Prime Minister hopes the new parliament will support the Brexit agreement.
