OREANDA-NEWS. Aleksey Pushkov, a member of the Federation Council of Russia, claimed that the United States is encroaching on the powers of the United Nations Security Council and international law trying to impose the renewal of sanctions against Iran.

According to the politician, Washington is calling into question the UN Charter and the role of the organization in the international arena. “The UN Secretary-General has already refused to follow the lead of the United States, because that would mean recognizing their dictate to the UN,” Pushkov wrote on his Twitter page.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the resumption of sanctions against Iran, despite the disagreement of the UN. According to him, the restrictions will affect the supply of weapons to Tehran. Before that, Washington has repeatedly stated that it will not allow Iran to receive Russian or Chinese weapons.
