Russian Ministry of Justice Recognized Czech Organization “People in Need” Undesirable
OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian Ministry of Justice has included the non-governmental Czech organization “People in Need” (Czech: Clovek v tisni) in the list of undesirable foreign structures. This is stated in a message on the ministry’s website, published on November 12.
It is noted that the decision was made in accordance with the federal law “On Measures to Influence Persons Involved in Violations of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms and the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens of the Russian Federation”. The decision on inclusion of “People in Need” in the list of undesirable organizations was made by the Deputy Prosecutor General of Russia on November 7.
“People in Need” founded in 1992 names itself a humanitarian organization that provides assistance to people in crisis situations and contributes to the spread and development of democracy and human rights in the world. It supports dissidents, independent journalists, human rights defenders and representatives of the democratic opposition in more than 40 countries, in particular, in the east of Ukraine. In 2016, the authorities of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic revoked accreditation from the organization. This decision was explained by the systematic disregard for the requirements of humanitarian aid programs.
On November 12, 2019, the number of entities in the list of undesirable foreign and international non-governmental organizations in Russian Federation reached 19.
In July, the Russian Ministry of Justice called the analytical non-governmental Atlantic Council of the United States undesirable. This organization is headed by Jon Huntsman, the former US Ambassador to Russia.
