Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Commented on the Idea of Bringing Peacekeepers into Nagorno-Karabakh
OREANDA-NEWS. The issue of bringing peacekeepers to Nagorno-Karabakh should be agreed with all parties to the conflict, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Andrey Rudenko said.
So he commented on the statement by the US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien regarding the possible appearance of peacekeepers from Scandinavia in the conflict zone. Rudenko said that “the Americans should be asked where they got this idea from.” According to him, the Russian Foreign Ministry does not have details of this proposal.
O’Brien stated that a possible peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh should not include representatives of the co-chairing countries of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. According to him, Turkey’s mediation does not satisfy either the United States or Armenia. Both sides will be satisfied with the introduction of peacekeepers from Scandinavia, and Washington is negotiating with representatives of the Scandinavian countries on the deployment of their observers in the region, O’Brien said.
