Russian Foreign Ministry Denys a Conclusion of UN about Ill-treatment of Ukrainian Citizens
OREANDA-NEWS. The Foreign Ministry of Russian Federation rejected the findings of the United Nations mission on human rights in Ukraine, which spoke about ill-treatment of Ukrainian citizens by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. This is stated in the message published on the official website of the Ministry on December 16.
“The estimates of the Monitoring Mission of the results of exchange of prisoners carried out on September 7 this year are perplexing. We reject the allegations of ill-treatment of Ukrainian citizens. […] We urge experts to rely on official sources of information when preparing reports,” the report says.
In addition, diplomats recalled that the mandate of the Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine does not include consideration of the situation in third countries. The department noted that the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol are located at the territory of Russia. Thus, an attempt to include an assessment of the human rights situation in Russian region in the report on Ukraine is unlawful.
The Foreign Ministry drew attention to a few more points. Firstly, representatives of the agency were surprised by the fact that experts continue to believe Kiev about payment of pensions to all Ukrainian citizens. In fact, such a social mechanism has not yet been created. Secondly, despite the decrease in the number of victims compared to the previous reporting period, the situation remains tense.
“Since April 2014, internal armed conflict claimed the lives of 147 children,” the Foreign Ministry stated. It is noted that the 28th report of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine was prepared for the period from August 16 to November 15, 2019.
On December 12, the UN announced the number of civilians killed in Donbass in 2019. According to the Monitoring Mission, 26 people were killed this year.
