OREANDA-NEWS. Statements by the United States regarding the redeployment of nuclear weapons in Europe exacerbate relations between Russia and NATO. This was declared by spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova on May 19.

She was asked to comment on the statement by the US Ambassador to Poland, Georgette Mosbacher, who on May 15 admitted that the Americans could redeploy their nuclear weapons from Germany to Poland.

“We hope that Washington and Warsaw will realize the dangerous nature of such statements, which exacerbate the already difficult period of relations between Russia and NATO and threaten the very material basis of European security, already weakened as a result of unilateral steps by the United States, first of all its withdrawal from the INF Treaty,” Zakharova said. The diplomat emphasized that the return of American warheads to the territory of own country, as Russia did, would be a real contribution to strengthening European security.
