Russian Ambassador Is Summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry after the Arrest of a Group of Russian Citizens
OREANDA-NEWS. Russian Ambassador in Minsk Dmitry Mezentsev has been summoned to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. The diplomat clarified that this is due to the Russian citizens detained near the Belarusian capital.
On Wednesday, the Belarusian side announced the arrest of 32 Russians from the Wagner Group, paramilitary organization. The State Security Committee of Belarus believes that the citizens of the Russian Federation arrived in the country to destabilize the situation during presidential election campaign.
Members of the State Duma and the Federation Council of Russia, in response to reports of the detention, stated that Moscow is not interested in destabilizing the situation in Belarus. First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov pointed out that the situation with the detention is “some kind of misunderstanding.”
