The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Tokyo considers the statements of the Japanese Foreign Ministry regarding the participation of the head of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, Yevgeny Zinichev, in the opening of the rescue center of the agency on the island of Kunashir to be unacceptable.

“On August 5, we received a representation from the Japanese Foreign Ministry in connection with the participation of the head of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, Yevgeny Zinichev, in the opening of the emergency and rescue center of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry on the island of Kunashir. In response, we indicated that we consider such statements by the Japanese side to be categorically unacceptable. The sovereignty of the Russian Federation over the southern Kuril Islands is beyond doubt,” the Embassy wrote on its Facebook page. “We noted that we have full right to carry out any activity on our territory in accordance with our legislation, including, of course, the trips of ministers,” the diplomatic mission emphasized.
