OREANDA-NEWS. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov in an interview with the International Life magazine said that Moscow proposed to hold meetings of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly outside the territory of the United States of America. It will be a response to the refusal of American visas to the representatives of the Russian delegation.

“As for the countermeasure, we have already raised the practical question that meetings of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, for example, and the Disarmament Commission – there is such a body – would be held not in New York, not in the United States,” said the diplomat. Ryabkov added that nowadays not only Russia is suffering from “the arrogance of America which turns into an absolutely dishonourable farce.”

The 74th session of the UN General Assembly opened on September 17. The representatives of about 200 countries participate in it. On September 24, the general debate of an international organization began in New York. On that day it became known that USA did not give visas to 10 members of the Russian delegation, including the member of the Council of the Federation (the upper house of Russian parliament) Konstantin Kosachov and the head of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Leonid Slutsky.

Russian authorities called such a situation unacceptable and provoking them to rigorous countermeasures, because it concerns not a bilateral visit, but the arrival of the state’s delegation at an international conference.
