Putin Says That NATO Stereotypes Are Outdated
OREANDA-NEWS. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that North Atlantic Treaty Organization is guided by outdated stereotypes of thinking, on the basis of which it is impossible to make effective decisions in the modern world.
“Blocking stereotypes of thinking of past years cannot be a good tool for finding and making effective decisions in the conditions of rapidly, swiftly changing conditions of the modern world,” the politician stated during a meeting on state defense orders in the interests of the Navy on December 3.
Putin emphasized that Russia repeatedly expressed its readiness to cooperate with the alliance in countering real threats, such as international terrorism, local armed conflicts and the danger of uncontrolled proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
The head of state also noted the approach of NATO to the Russian borders, which he called a threat to the country’s security. Putin recalled that initially the alliance was created to counter the USSR. The Russian leader emphasized that, despite the fact that “there is no Soviet Union,” “NATO not only exists, but develops.”
Earlier, Russian officials repeatedly called on NATO to reconsider bilateral relations in order to resolve military issues. On December 2, Russian Ambassador to Great Britain Andrey Kelin noted that Russia, unlike the alliance, is not increasing the presence of its forces along the borders of Western countries.
In November, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg declared the absence of aggression from Russia, but at the same time he called the Russian Federation the main threat to the alliance. In his opinion, Moscow is becoming more persistent, and NATO nowadays is more strong and successful than ever.
