Putin Said Almost 5 Thousand People Died after Escalation of Conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh
OREANDA-NEWS. After the escalation of the Armenian–Azerbaijani conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, almost 5 thousand people died, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club. “There are many losses on both sides. According to our data, more than 2 thousand people died on the one side and 2 thousand on the other. The total death toll is approaching 5 thousand,” the politician said.
Putin added that at the beginning of the escalation of the conflict it seemed that “we will find a solution,” but now “we have a conflict in its worst form.” At the same time, the Russian President noted that efforts are being made to resolve the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh. He recalled the visit of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan to Moscow on October 20 and 21. “On the 23rd, they will meet in Washington. I hope very much that our American partners will act in unison with us and help the settlement,” Putin noted. The President added that the positions of Russia and Turkey on the resolution of the conflict do not coincide.
