Putin Explained Russia’s Position on the Status of Nagorno-Karabakh
OREANDA-NEWS. Russian President Vladimir Putin told how Moscow treats the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. He recalled that Armenia did not recognize the independence of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and, from the point of view of international law, this territory belongs to Azerbaijan. However, the final status of the republic has not been settled, the politician noted.
“Armenia did not recognize the independence and sovereignty of Nagorno-Karabakh. This means that, from the point of view of international law, Nagorno-Karabakh and all the regions adjacent to it are an integral part of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The final status of Karabakh has not been settled,” Putin said.
The President of the Russian Federation believes that the issue of the final status of Nagorno-Karabakh has to be settled in future. In his opinion, the conditions for determining the status will be created when conditions for a normal life and for the restoration of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and “between people at the everyday level” are created.
