OREANDA-NEWS. Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko will sign a package of «road maps» for the integration of Russia and Belarus soon, Belarusian Ambassador to Moscow Vladimir Semashko said at a meeting with Voronezh Region Governor Alexander Gusev and Deputy Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexey Gordeev on Tuesday, August 31. According to Semashko, the documents will be signed by Putin and Lukashenko on September 9 at a meeting in Moscow. «Thank God, three years later we are at the finish line, when there is only one card left out of 28. I think we will press the last one on the 7th», the ambassador explained.
Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin and Lukashenko will meet on September 9 and hold talks, after which they will give a press conference. Peskov did not report the subject of the negotiations.
Earlier it was reported that Putin and Lukashenko plan to discuss at a meeting in Moscow the union programs prepared by the governments of the two countries, international issues, as well as topical issues of the bilateral agenda. The last time Lukashenka met with Putin was on July 13 in St. Petersburg. It was their fourth personal meeting this year. Before that, both saw each other in February, April and May. All meetings were held in Russia.
The authorities of Russia and Belarus have been discussing the political integration of the two countries since 1999. The 2019-2020 negotiations concerned the 31st «road map» on integration in various spheres of economy and management. The draft «road maps» have never been published. Residents of Belarus staged protests against the integration of their country with Russia.
