OREANDA-NEWS. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared that Russia’s actions impede the establishment of a ceasefire on the territory of Syria.

“Ruthless actions by Russia, the Iranian regime, Hizballah, and the Assad regime are directly preventing the establishment of a ceasefire in northern Syria,” the politician wrote on his Twitter page. Pompeo added that Washington condemns the “barbaric attacks” and calls for an immediate ceasefire.

The ceasefire regime in the de-escalation zone in Idlib Governorate, which had been announced by agreement between Russia and Turkey, entered into force on January 12. The Syrian government army stopped hostilities earlier, on January 9.

During last week, dozens of people died in the de-escalation zone. The media report that Ankara is transferring weapons to Syrian groups loyal to it in order to stop the Syrian army’s advance, while Moscow accuses Western countries of interfering with the destruction of the terrorists.
