Police Detained 34 Protesters near the Residence of Prime Minister of Israel
OREANDA-NEWS. Israeli police detained at least 34 participants in a mass protest near the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, which was attended by several thousand people on Wednesday night.
This was reported by The Times of Israel. According to the publication, the protesters, after coordinating the procession with the police, marched in a column to the building of the Knesset (the unicameral national parliament), after which they returned back to the prime minister’s residence. The demonstrators demanded the resignation of the Israeli government amid the ongoing crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the newspaper, law enforcement officers began to disperse the demonstrators with the help of water cannons and with the participation of mounted police at about 01:00 local time (23:00 UTC). Clashes broke out, and 34 people were detained for violence against policemen and disturbance of public order.
