On August 19, EU Leaders Will Hold a Videoconference to Discuss the Situation in Belarus
OREANDA-NEWS. The heads of state and government of the European Union will hold on August 19 a summit in the format of videoconference to discuss the situation in Belarus.
This was announced on Monday by President of the European Council, Charles Michel. “I will call a meeting of the members of the European Council this Wednesday at 12h00 to discuss the situation in Belarus,” the politician wrote on his Twitter page. According to Michel, “the people of Belarus have the right to decide on their future and freely elect their leader.” “Violence against protesters is unacceptable and cannot be allowed,” he added.
On August 14, the EU held a meeting on Belarus at the level of the foreign ministers of the community countries. After that, the Union announced that it does not accept the results of the election in the Republic of Belarus and began work on the introduction of new sanctions against Minsk.
