OREANDA-NEWS. Russian opposition politician Aleksey Navalny has asked the Berlin Senate for permission to extend his visa, under which he is in Germany after being poisoned.

Some media suggested that Navalny has a tourist Schengen visa, according to which he can stay in the country for no longer than 90 days within 180 days. Thus, this term could have expired on November 20. However, earlier the media reported that the Russian arrived in Germany as a guest of the Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Navalny spent a month undergoing treatment at the Berlin clinic Charite, where he was flown by an ambulance plane on August 22. The oppositionist spent more than two weeks in a coma. On September 23 he was discharged from the hospital. He remains in Germany until his full recovery, as he fears that after returning to Russia he may not receive qualified medical assistance, and the authorities will forbid him to leave the country again.
