Macron’s Party Loses Local Elections to Green Movement
OREANDA-NEWS. The political party Europe Ecology – the Greens received the best result following the second round of local elections in France, which was held on June 28. For the first time, Green candidates were elected mayors of Strasbourg, Lyon, Marseille, and Bordeaux.
In Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghyan was elected mayor. In Lyon, the supporter of President Emmanuel Macron, the former Minister of Internal Affairs of the country Gerard Colomb, lost to the representative of the Green, Gregory Doucet. In Bordeaux, the candidate of the Green Pierre Hurmic won over the center-right politician Nicolas Florian.
In the territories where the Green failed to win, they were able to enter into an alliance with the left parties and ensure the victory of their nominees. So, in Paris, socialist Anne Hidalgo was re-elected to the post of mayor with the active support of the Green movement.
