“We should reform the Schengen area so that it becomes a security space, which involves strengthening the external borders of the European Union, improving the mechanism for assessing the functioning of the Schengen area, including sanctions against those who do not fulfill their obligations,” the politician told reporters. According to him, Paris will present a reform plan in the near future.

On November 10, the French President received the Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz at the Elysee Palace. Together they held a video conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen. The topic of the meeting was the fight against the terrorist threat in the EU.
