Lukashenko Said that He Had Been Heading Belarus Maybe Too Long
OREANDA-NEWS. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who was elected in August for a sixth term, admitted that he “stayed too long” as head of state.
On September 8, the politician gave an interview to Russian journalists of the television channels Russia-1, Channel One, RT, and the radio station Govorit Moskva. “Yes, maybe I stayed too long for a little, maybe now they show me not only from the TV, but also from the iron and from the kettle. […] But really, only I can protect Belarusians now,” one of the journalists, Yevgeny Rozhkov, quoted the words of Lukashenko on the air of Russia-1. At the same time, the Belarusian President does not intend to leave the post “for no particular reason.” “I have been developing Belarus for a quarter of a century. I won’t just give it up. Besides, if I leave, my supporters will be slaughtered!”, Roman Babayan, editor-in-chief of the radio station Govorit Moskva, who also participated in the interview, quoted the Belarusian leader.
