OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus will produce its own vaccine against coronavirus of a new type if the developments of Belarusian scientists turn out to be serious, President of the republic Alexander Lukashenko said on Decemver 14.

“If the achievements of our scientists turn out to be serious, we will be engaged in the production of our own vaccine,” the politician said.

At the same time, the head of state drew attention to the fact that Belarusian authorities are also considering the possibility of producing a Russian vaccine and purchasing it.

On October 1, the vaccination of volunteers began in Belarus as part of a study of the Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V. 100 residents of the republic were given the opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The Ministry of Health of Belarus reported that it is considering the possibility of vaccinating up to 2 million people in 2021.
