OREANDA-NEWS. Russian authorities have no doubt that US President Donald Trump is aware of the benefits for American business, people and the world situation from the “good relations” between Moscow and Washington. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov after his visit to the White House.

According to the diplomat, in such relations there should be no elements of favors to one or the other side, they should “be based on a balance of interests, on pragmatism and on mutual benefit”. At the same time, Lavrov noted that not everyone in the United States shares this opinion, trying to “slow down in every possible way” the normalization of relations and introducing new sanctions.

The Foreign Minister said that his talks with US President were held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding. According to Lavrov, both sides are aimed at making more efforts to achieve concrete results in those spheres where Russia and the United States can provide “long, mutually beneficial and effective work.”

Trump also praised the meeting. The American leader wrote about this on his Twitter page, calling the conversation with Lavrov “very good.” “Look forward to continuing our dialogue in the near future!” Trump resumed.

Prior to the meeting with the Trump, Lavrov held talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. They agreed that Moscow and Washington should not make a pause in the development of relations of the two countries. At the same time, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the “wave of suspicions that swept Washington” hindered the joint work of the parties.
