Latvia Refused to Hold a Referendum on School Education in Russian
OREANDA-NEWS. The Central Election Commission of Latvia refused to collect signatures under the initiative of the political party Jaunas Saskanas on state financing of school education not only in the Latvian language.
The party requested the Commission to start collection of signatures for holding a referendum in support of the prepared draft law on financing by the Republic of Latvia of education in Russian and other languages.
The agency refused to register the party’s application, since it does not meet the country’s Constitution and the rules of the Saeima.
The full text of the decision of the Central Election Commission will be available on January 8. It can be challenged within a month.
