Kremlin Spokesman Said Russia Has No Obligations over Nagorno-Karabakh
OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian Federation, fulfilling its obligations under the Collective Security Treaty, can defend Armenia, but such obligations do not apply to Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the President of Russia.
According to the politician, if a member country of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is subjected to any aggression from the outside, then other member states should come to its defense. “In this case, we are talking about Armenia, the President [Of Russia Vladimir Putin. – Ed.] has clarified and delimited these two issues, so the CSTO obligations do not apply to Nagorno-Karabakh,” Peskov explained. The Kremlin spokesman also added that information about some military actions in the territory of Armenia has not been confirmed.
Earlier, President Putin assured that Russia is ready to fulfill alliance obligations to Armenia under the Collective Security Treaty. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan also stated that Moscow had guaranteed the fulfillment of its obligations if the territory of Armenia is attacked.
