OREANDA-NEWS. Dmitry Peskov, the Spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, claimed that the development of relations between Belarus and the United States is the sovereign right of Minsk. At the same time, the Kremlin considers the “super-close rapprochement" between the two countries to be unlikely.

In such a way Peskov commented on the visit of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Minsk. “We have our own relations with Belarus… there are a lot of issues on the agenda for the development of our relations, including some problematic issues that are being spoken about,” the spokesman added.

In late January and early February, Pompeo toured four former Soviet republics: Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The visit to Minsk was the first for the US Secretary of State since the beginning of 1990s.
