The United States and China should establish the limits of geopolitical confrontation, otherwise the world will find itself in a situation reminiscent of the conditions before the First World War. This opinion was expressed by the former US Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, during an online discussion organized by the Economic Club of New York.

According to the politician, Washington and Beijing should agree on rules of the game to avoid the risk of escalating tensions. “And if it’s totally impossible, we will slide into a situation similar to World War I,” he said.

Kissinger added that he was increasingly alarmed by the new cold war unfolding between China and the United States. He explained the emergence of this conflict with the appearance of new technologies that have changed the geopolitical situation. America in today’s world needs new thinking and the realization of the fact that the world is too complex for one country to maintain hegemony both in the economy and in the strategic sphere, Kissinger considers.
