OREANDA-NEWS. Member of the Presidium of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition Maria Kalesnikava was detained at the border with Ukraine. This was reported by the Belarusian News Agency. Later, the official representative of the Belarusian border committee, Anton Bychkovsky, confirmed that the oppositionist was detained.

The TV channel reports that Kalesnikava tried to illegally cross the border. “The members of the coordination council for the seizure of power Anton Rodnenkov and Ivan Kravtsov fled abroad this night. Now they are on the territory of Ukraine,” the message says.

Journalists also published a video in which Kravtsov speaks of the decision to leave the republic. “I made a decision to leave the territory of the country, and now we, including Maria Kalesnikava, will cross the border of the Republic of Belarus and leave it for a while,” Kravtsov explained.

According to the agency, at about 4:00 local time (0:00 UTC), oppositionists tried to “break through” to the territory of the neighbouring country. “When inspecting a car, they lost their nerve. Rushing sharply towards Ukraine, they almost knocked down a border guard. At the same time, Kalesnikava was literally thrown out of the car,” the message says.
