OREANDA-NEWS. An appeal has been sent to the International Criminal Court in The Hague with a call to initiate a case against the incumbent President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the portal Charter 97 reports. According to the publication, the petition was signed by more than 37 thousand people from 102 countries of the world.

“We call on the International Criminal Court and Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to initiate a criminal case against the former President of Belarus for crimes against humanity,” the appeal says. The authors of the petition stressed that Lukashenko is personally responsible for the “atrocities” that were committed by the security forces on the streets of Belarusian cities, as well as in prisons and pre-trial detention centers.

One of the initiators of the petition is the Belarusian–Canadian Alliance. On September 29, the British and Canadian authorities imposed personal sanctions against several high-ranking Belarusian officials, Lukashenko and his son Viktor. The restrictive measures prohibit them from entering the territory of the countries and imply the freezing of all their assets.
