In Yerevan, a Number of Opposition Rally Participants Were Detained
OREANDA-NEWS. Detentions have begun in Yerevan, where a rally of opposition supporters who disagree with the terms of the agreement to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh is to be held on November 11. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia on Telegram.
Liberty Square in the center of the Armenian capital was cordoned off by law enforcement officers. Former head of the National Assembly’s staff Arsen Babayan and ex-parliamentarian Vardan Ayvazyan were arrested. The police detained and took away from the square members of the Republican Party of Armenia and the political party Fatherland. According to reporters, the country’s National Security Service also detained the leader of the party Prosperous Armenia, Gagik Tsarukyan.
The protests in Yerevan began after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement to end hostilities in the unrecognized Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. The demonstrators disagree with the terms of the document, according to which a part of the territories previously controlled by Armenia was transferred to Azerbaijan.
