OREANDA-NEWS. On July 1, Hong Kong police detained more than 70 participants in illegal protests.

The press service of law enforcement agency reported on Facebook that manifestants tried to gather in the areas Causeway Bay and Wan Chai. Two of detainees are suspected of violating the national security law.

Earlier on the same day, officers detained the first person for violating the national security law. This is a man who waved the Hong Kong flag, police representatives explained.

The law on national security entered into force on June 30 at 23:00 local time. It outlines four types of crimes that are considered a threat to statehood: separatist activities, attempts to undermine state power, terrorist activities, and conspiring with foreign states or other forces located abroad in order to jeopardize national security.
